Liverpool's interest in Newcastle forward Alexander Isak refuses to go away.

The Swedish striker has notched 19 goals and five assists in 24 Premier League matches this season, which has inevitably piqued the Reds' interest.

Despite his side being on course to win the title, Arne Slot seems far from impressed with his centre-forward options and could look to bring Isak to Anfield in a £150million deal.

The path to a deal may have been opened after the latest development from the North East outfit.

Liverpool move for Isak becomes clearer

Newcastle do not want to lose the 25-year-old and will do everything in their power to keep him on Tyneside, according to a report from Daily Mail.

The report in the newspaper's print edition (page 75, 7 March) claims that the Magpies are set to revisit contract talks with Isak in the summer.

However, it states that the North East outfit have put contingency plans in place with Ipswich star Liam Delap on their shortlist.

Isak move would take Liverpool to a new level

If the Reds could secure a deal for the Swedish star, it would be a brilliant addition to an already world-class squad.

The likes of Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have all frustrated Slot this season with concerns arising about their goal returns, especially when the latter has been featuring in the number nine role rather than on the left flank.

Only Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo have been consistent goalscorers for the Reds this season, so more firepower is required.

Isak is arguably the most in-form striker on the planet at the moment, so a move to Anfield would take the Merseysiders to a new level, provided that they can also keep Salah, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

However, it would be a difficult deal with Eddie Howe's side unwilling to sell but if enough money is on the table, potentially raised by selling underperforming stars, they could be tempted, especially if they are already planning on bringing in another quality striker.

The prospect of Salah and Isak terrorising defences across Europe is a mouthwatering one for Reds supporters and would terrify rival fans.
