Liverpool news round-up: New striker to arrive at Anfield as private Salah talks emerge

Liverpool still have business to do in the transfer window.

Following the blockbuster arrival of Florian Wirtz at Anfield, certain players’ futures under Arne Slot have begun to look more uncertain.

With the Reds‘ pre-season preparations well underway, Slot will be closely analysing his side to decide what action needs to be taken in the rest of the window.

At Liverpool News, we round up the biggest recent talking points from July 12.

Marc Guehi alternative found for the Reds

Liverpool’s interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been well documented.

Following the sale of Jarrell Quansah and the contract uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate, centre back is a priority position for Slot to recruit this summer.

Whilst signing the England international would be a phenomenal piece of business, talks appear to have stalled, meaning the Reds need to consider their options instead of Guehi.

Jorrel Hato is an option Liverpool could choose to pursue instead, with the youngster being regarded as among the most exciting young defenders in Europe.

Hato, 19, already has a wealth of experience, amassing over 100 senior appearances, making him a potential long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk.

Nunez to stay at Liverpool

After being linked with a move away to Napoli, Nunez could now stay in Merseyside.

According to recent reports, talks between the current English and Italian champions appear to be breaking down, making a transfer unlikely.

Despite Slot evidently not favouring Nunez, he has been urged to utilise the Uruguayan, as he may have to potentially stick with him going into next season.

With the striker netting just five league goals last campaign, Liverpool will be hoping to sanction a sale to facilitate the signing of a new forward.

Liverpool prioritise a new striker

With rumours linking Alexander Isak with a move to L4 appearing to cool down, Liverpool must be prepared to look at other options.

Sources have told Liverpool News that a new striker is a priority for Slot.

Slot’s system demands a striker who can hold up the ball, facilitate quick transitions and exploit spaces created by wingers and the attacking midfielder, while also being able to contribute defensively.

The Reds have been linked to a forward who has been labelled ‘the next Karim Benzema’, with Hugo Ekitike emerging as a potential option to lead the line for Liverpool next season.

With Salah guaranteed to be missing mid-way through the next campaign due to AFCON, identifying someone who can step up in his absence will be crucial if Liverpool want to retain the Premier League.

Next Salah to sign new contract at Anfield

Kareem Ahmed is regarded as one of the most promising talents in Liverpool’s academy, with the Egyptian naturally drawing comparisons to Salah.

The attacking midfielder is a versatile player who had a prolific season in the Anfield outfit’s youth ranks and now looks to step up a level to the Under-21s for the next campaign.

Ahmed was known to be offered a new deal at the club per Liverpool’s retained list, but an official update has not been given since.

Sources have since informed Liverpool News that they expect Ahmed to put pen to paper on a new contract, with an announcement likely coming within the next week.

The same source dubbed the youngster a “game changer” and claimed his compatriot, Salah, continues to monitor his development.
