Liverpool ‘can seal £80m Pedro Porro transfer’ after Alexander-Arnold exit news

Liverpool could make a move for Pedro Porro once Trent Alexander-Arnold departs for Real Madrid.

The Reds’ euphoria after becoming the 2024/25 Premier League title winners in a 5-1 victory against Tottenham at Anfield (27 April) has been cut abruptly short after Alexander-Arnold announced his Liverpool exit on social media.

The 26-year-old is expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, with messages from teammates past and present pouring in, wishing the best on his new journey.

Therefore, Liverpool will need a replacement for Alexander-Arnold, and recent transfer news suggests that they could turn toward Tottenham’s Porro.

Tottenham ready to sell Porro

As reported by TBR Football (22 April), Tottenham are willing to sell Porro this summer, with Manchester City showing an interest in re-signing the defender.

Graeme Bailey reports that Daniel Levy would consider selling Porro for £50million.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes it would take £80million to convince Spurs to part ways in the summer.

“I still think Porro is a top player,” Wenham said.

“I think he just needs a change of manager, and I would like him to remain at the club. However, if Tottenham were going to sell him, it would be for big money. He was signed for £40million, and he has improved significantly since then.

“Therefore, that fee would need to be covered, and Tottenham would want money on top of that, which means it would need to be £80m. That is what it would take for Spurs to accept, and if a club, such as Manchester City, doesn’t want to pay that, then Porro can’t leave.”

Liverpool should go all out for Porro

When Alexander-Arnold sets off for Madrid this summer, his passing, technical skill, and precision with which he can pick out specific teammates will depart with him.

Porro, not only in the Premier League, but perhaps in Europe, is the only somewhat available player with the skillset to replicate Alexander-Arnold’s output.

In the current season, both players have the same number of goal contributions, with only five games between them.

If attacking contributions were not convincing enough, Porro marginally leads in defensive stats, having made 63 tackles with a 73 per cent success rate, 34 interceptions and won 117 duels [Premier League].

While Alexander-Arnold has more blocked shots, he has made 70 tackles with a 70 per cent success rate, 30 interceptions and won 97 duels.

The departure of Alexander-Arnold is certain to leave a void in many supporters’ hearts; however, while what he represents for the club – the essence of its youth – may not be replaceable, his contribution on the pitch may not be as difficult to come by.
