View: 100% Cody Gakpo secures his status on Liverpool left after what he did v Leicester
Liverpool star Cody Gakpo secured his status as Arne Slot’s best option on the left after his performances against Leicester City.
The Reds recovered from an early Jordan Ayew strike to seal a 3-1 win at Anfield on Boxing Day (26 December) as Gakpo put a poor performance against Tottenham behind him.
That victory extended their lead at the summit of the Premier League to seven points with a game in hand on their title rivals.
The Dutchman played a key part in the result, scoring a stunning equaliser on the stroke of half-time before assisting Mohamed Salah for the third.
Gakpo finally living up to his potential at Liverpool
Slot’s arrival on Merseyside has done wonders for the 25-year-old after two inconsistent seasons at Anfield.
He featured from both wings, in a false nine role and even in midfield during his spell under Jurgen Klopp but Slot seems to have found success reverting him to the left where he starred for PSV and the Netherlands.
The Dutch international has ten goal contributions in his last 12 matches for the Reds, averaging a goal or an assist every 67 minutes in that period.

In the clash against Leicester, he recorded a 92 per cent pass accuracy, made three passes into the final third and created two chances. [Fotmob]
He had three shots, six touches in the opposition box and completed 100 per cent of his three dribble attempts as well as notching a goal and an assist.
Defensively, he won the only tackle he attempted, made three recoveries and won seven out of 10 ground duels for a 70 per cent success rate.
It seems to finally all be coming together for Gakpo on Merseyside, as he grows in influence and consistency and he may have secured a spot as Slot’s preferred left-winger for the second-half of the season.
