Kevin De Bruyne could join Liverpool after he announced his decision to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

The Belgian has been one of the best players in the Premier League in the last decade and has constantly been a thorn in the Reds' side.

However, he is set to leave the Etihad at the end of the season and could make the move to Anfield after a new update on his plans.

Liverpool could tempt De Bruyne to move to Merseyside

Arne Slot is set to transform his squad as he attempts to keep them at the summit of the Premier League next term and De Bruyne could make a sensational Anfield switch.

A report from Belgian outfit De Standaard (15 April) claims that the 33-year-old would prefer to remain at the elite level rather than moving to Saudi Arabia.

It states that the possibility of him joining the Reds cannot be ruled out due to that desire and the connection that the Merseyside club has to his family, since his grandfather supports them.

De Bruyne could do a job for Liverpool

The Citizens star may not be at the peak of his powers anymore but he could still be a major asset for the Reds as he is a genuis with the ball at his feet.

Of course, his fitness would need to be managed, as he has only featured 22 times for Pep Guardiola's side this season in the league, notching three goals and seven assists.

The Belgian international grabbed a goal and an assist in the 5-2 victory over Crystal Palace (12 April), showing that he is far from done at the top level of English football.

The likely champions-elect need a new playmaker with Trent Alexander-Arnold seemingly set to join Real Madrid and the 109-cap international fits the bill.

It is unlikely that he would join the L4 outfit given his age and the huge wage packet that he could demand elsewhere but it would be a very exciting prospect, even if he is not as consistent as he once was, he can still make an impact.

The fact that City are losing a player of De Bruyne's quality is already a major loss but Slot's side could make it even worse by signing him.
