Liverpool starlet Trey Nyoni shone on his first senior start for the club in the win over Southampton.

Arne Slot had revealed that some of the Reds' academy players would feature in the EFL Cup quarter-final clash as he rested some senior players.

The 17-year-old got the nod and played 86 minutes before being replaced by fellow academy talent Jayden Danns in a 2-1 victory.

The former Leicester youth star put in an impressive performance that will no doubt leave supporters wanting to see more.

Before the clash with the Saints, the academy talent had featured in two cup matches for the Reds for a total of 38 minutes.

Nyoni showed why he is amongst the most highly rated players in his age group in the country with a fine performance against the Premier League bottom-dwellers.

The 17-year-old recorded a 93 passing accuracy, misplacing just four of his 59 attempts, he played the third most passes into the final third for his side with seven and had two touches in the opposition box. [Fotmob]

Defensively, he also impressed, making one interception and the joint-most recoveries for the Reds with four in his 86-minute appearance.

In terms of duels, he won the only aerial duel he contested for a 100 per cent success rate but lost all three ground duels he attempted.

His first senior start will have impressed Slot and the supporters will want to see more of the promising talent sooner rather than later.
