Liverpool forward Diogo Jota proved why he is vital to the club’s title chances in a 20-minute cameo against Fulham.

The Portuguese attacker was brought on by Arne Slot with the Reds trailing 2-1 at Anfield in the 79th minute having played with ten men since Andy Robertson was sent off after 17 minutes.

Within seven minutes of his return from injury, he had scored the equaliser for the Merseysiders and highlighted his importance to the club’s Premier League title charge.

The 28-year-old has been plagued by injury issues in recent years.

In his five seasons with the Reds since his move from Wolves, Jota has played more than 22 league games just once.

This campaign was going well, he had four contributions in seven league matches before he suffered a rib injury in the 2-1 victory against Chelsea on 20 October.

He had six touches in the opposition box and created a combined 0.60 xG and xA total in the clash against Marco Silva’s side.

He also helped out defensively, winning the only tackle he attempted, making one recovery and winning four of six ground duels contested for a success rate of 67 per cent.

Jota is the Reds most clinical option for the number nine role, if he stays fit, he will be crucial in their title bid.
