Liverpool crashed out of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, after defeat on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain.

Trent Alexander-Arnold likely would have taken a penalty, but he was worryingly forced off injured in the second half.

Arne Slot has no time to feel sorry for himself though, with a huge Carabao Cup final against Newcastle next up at Wembley on Sunday.

Huge Alexander-Arnold injury update

Injuries plagued Liverpool as defenders Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate were forced off during the defeat.

The Liverpool vice-captain has been an integral part of the side that is cantering towards a Premier League title. In 28 Premier League games, Alexander-Arnold has provided six assists and scored two goals.

His presence in the team gives them an extra attacking dimension on the right. However, Liverpool could miss his presence in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

Slot has confirmed, however, that the England international is unlikely to play in a huge blow.

Speaking via The Athletic, Slot said: "I have to ask but for me Ibou (Konate) was more that he was tired than it was an injury.

"With Trent, he had to come off. That’s never a good sign.

"And from what I heard from people that saw the images or how he got injured, that didn’t look very good. So I would be surprised if he is available for Sunday."

EFL Cup win could boost Liverpool spirits

The Reds' exit from the competition has sent a shockwave through the fans, as well as the players. Liverpool have been one of the best sides in Europe this term and they were expected to go deep in the Champions League, after topping the new league phase.

They have been unrelenting in the Premier League too, currently sitting 15 points clear of second-placed Arsenal, but their loss to PSG could derail their momentum to a certain extent.

With the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, Slot's army will look to clinch their first trophy of the season, with Newcastle in their way.

A comprehensive win against the Magpies will inject optimism and energy back into the Reds after the loss to PSG, and maybe that's what Liverpool will need to keep going.
