Mohamed Salah’s future is hanging in the balance as Liverpool push to keep their superstar.

The Egypt international is out of contract at the end of this season at Anfield, which could set Salah up to leave the Reds on a free transfer.

It would be a significant blow to Arne Slot’s side, while he could also lose Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk for the same reason.

The Liverpool full-back is said to have agreed to join Real Madrid at the end of his contract, which places increasing pressure on the negotiations with Salah and Van Dijk.

Michael Owen provides update on Salah contract saga

Salah has been tipped to follow Alexander-Arnold out of Anfield by Martin Allen, who exclusively told Liverpool News that he will leave “if he can get £800,000-a-week or £1m-a-week tax-free in Saudi Arabia.”

Despite that, it has been shared that Salah wants to stay on Merseyside.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Michael Owen has shared the latest, saying: “Mo Salah wants to stay.”

The Reds have typically been hesitant to offer longer contracts to players over 30, which is a situation Owen believes the club needs to reconsider when it comes to Salah.

"I think Liverpool are going to have to bend the rules slightly, they might say, 'Oh right, only two years for players of this age.'

"I mean, he's just unbelievable, so I would bend the rules, I would give him the contract, the length of contract.

"To replace him, it's going to cost an awful lot more, you're not going to pay a transfer fee for him, so I would do whatever it takes to keep him, and I think he wants to stay, but sources tell me that they're still quite a way apart."

Liverpool would be hitting restart if they lose their key trio

Liverpool appear destined to win the Premier League this season after an impressive campaign, but Slot’s hard work could end up being undone in the summer if he loses three of his first-team players.

With only 16 points needed in nine remaining games, Salah is well on his way to lifting a second Premier League title, but could that be enough for him?

Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid at the end of the season, and fans are now urging the club to try and do everything it takes to retain Van Dijk.

The Liverpool captain was controversially spotted talking to PSG officials at Anfield earlier this season, which has added some doubt to his situation.

With some distance between Salah and an agreement, FSG need to put their foot on the pedal and get this mess sorted out before it gets any worse.
