Jarell Quansah is seen as a promising upcoming player in the Liverpool squad.

The centre-back made his breakthrough at the Reds under Jurgen Klopp and was a starter in the German’s final year at Anfield.

Since Arne Slot has come to Merseyside, the 22-year-old has struggled for starts after he was subbed off against Ipswich at the start of the season.

Now, Quansah’s future is in doubt after a recent transfer development.

Bayer Leverkusen consider bid for Quansah

Bayer Leverkusen are plotting a bid for Quansah this summer as they search for a new defender.

The two clubs are already set to do business this summer, with Florian Wirtz set to join Liverpool for a record fee.

Now, the German side have made contact with Anfield to sign Quansah as he is high on their shortlist.

Liverpool are said to rate the 22-year-old at £40million.

If any bid comes close to this, Slot has to approve the sale. Quansah proved many times this season that he is simply not ready for regular starts at the Reds.

While it is clear that he has potential, the Premier League is ruthless, and mistakes cannot be made if Liverpool are to win the title.

Even if Leverkusen bid £30m for the Englishman, a record fee for the German club, this has to be considered by Slot.

Liverpool need a ready-made centre-back

While there are many links suggesting that Liverpool are going to strengthen their attack this summer, more needs to be done to improve their backline.

Virgil van Dijk is not getting any younger, and Ibrahima Konate is linked to Real Madrid.

Therefore, a centre-back is needed, and Slot must make sure he signs a ready-made defender.

Liverpool cannot be signing players with potential in the hope that they will be good one day.

If the Reds are to hold onto the Premier League crown, they must ensure every major signing they make will instantly improve their starting XI.
