Liverpool host Newcastle on Wednesday looking to continue their charge towards the Premier League title.

The Reds have an 11-point advantage at the summit of the top flight after the 2-0 win over Manchester City on 23 February with 12 matches to play.

Arsenal have a game-in-hand but the longer that the Anfield outfit can maintain such a big margin, the more likely that they are to win the Premier League.

Arne Slot will hope his side can pick up where they left off and beat the Magpies at Anfield (26 February) to further cement their title chances.

Slot needs a win v Newcastle

It is imperative that the Reds win as many matches as they can as the season edges to a conclusion.

Slot's side need to maintain as big a gap to the Gunners as possible so that there is no chance of Mikel Arteta's side catching them.

The 11-point gap could be reduced to eight points if the North London outfit win their game-in-hand against Chelsea which is set to be played on the day of the Carabao Cup final.

If they win, that would still allow the Reds to lose two matches and draw one given that there goal difference is ten better.

The Reds have dropped points in just eight of their 27 league matches, with Arsenal failing to win 11 matches so far this season, so it is hard to envision Slot's side blowing their lead.

The tremendous exploits of Mohamed Salah, who is the frontrunner for the prestigious Ballon d'Or award, look set to fire his side to the title in what could be his final season at Anfield.

It would be a remarkable achievement to win the league in Slot's first season in English football and the Merseysiders just need to keep their composure to do so.
