Liverpool have held talks with the agent of Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida, according to HITC.

Writing on their website [4 July], HITC said the Reds have contacted the agents of Geertruida and Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville.

Geertruida played a pivotal role in helping Arne Slot win the Eredivisie title with Feyenoord in the 2022/23 season.

The 23-year-old is currently with the Netherlands at Euro 2024.

Liverpool looking to ramp-up transfer business

It has been a crazy few weeks for Liverpool fans.

From interest in Lille centre-back Leny Yoro bound for Real Madrid to the failed negotiations with Newcastle for Anthony Gordon, it has been a case of 'nearly' transfers for the club.

Slot revealed in his first interview as Liverpool manager that he has been in constant discussions with sporting director Richard Hughes.

He reportedly wanted to assess the squad in pre-season before making decisions on summer business.

It now seems Slot has decided who he wants and talks have began to bring his former player to Anfield.

Geertruida would be a versatile addition to the Reds.

The Dutch international can play anywhere across the backline and has played as a number six.

His performances earned him a place in Ronald Koeman's Netherlands squad for Euro 2024.

He scored eight goals and provided five assists in the Eredivisie last season [Transfermarkt], with the output spread across appearances in defensive positions.

Liverpool have had long-standing interest in Geertruida but the interest has developed since the decision to appoint Slot at the Anfield helm.

Paris Saint-Germain are also touted with interest in the defender so Hughes will have to act fast.

Under the age of 24 and a title winner - he ticks all the boxes as Liverpool-type signing.
