Arne Slot holds personal talks with Leeds United ace Crysencio Summerville over Liverpool transfer

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has held personal talks with Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, according to journalist Wiebe de Vries.

Writing on X (4 July), De Vries – who has previously worked for ESPN – said Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are leading the race for the Dutch winger.

The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from Elland Road following Leeds’ Championship play-off final loss to Southampton.

Summerville notched 19 goals and 9 assists in the Championship last term and was voted EFL Championship Player of the Year.

Liverpool moving on from Anthony Gordon saga

After a slow few weeks for the Reds it seems Slot is gearing up his plans for next season.

Newcastle opened negotiations with Liverpool for Anthony Gordon [Daily Mail, 29 June] amid the 30 June PSR deadline but the move collapsed when the Magpies asked for defender Jarell Quansah in the deal.

A move for the former Everton man now seems unlikely following the sales of Elliott Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yakuba Minteh to Brighton.

Whilst it could still be a move to keep an eye on, the Reds are moving on to alternative targets.

Summerville can play on either side but featured primarily on the left-wing for Leeds last season.

With Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota current squad options for the left, it is likely he will be signed as a Mohamed Salah understudy.

The Egyptian has entered the final year of his contract and the Reds need to think about the future.

Salah will be 33-years-old by the time his current deal expires and that is assuming a massive offer from Saudi Arabia doesn’t arrive for him this summer.

A move for Summerville is a very Michael Edwards-esque deal.

Now CEO of football, Edwards earned his reputation during his reign as sporting director for signing young talent with high potential.

The Dutch international has shown he is ready for the next step and wouldn’t be expected to be an immediate starter.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on as the Reds step-up their transfer business.
