Liverpool fans all say the same thing about Milos Kerkez after ’embarrassing’ moment vs Burnley

Liverpool fans have reacted after Milos Kerkez was given a yellow card in a thoughtless moment against Burnley on Saturday.

The Hungary international was given the start, whilst Dominik Szoboszlai was kept at right-back by Arne Slot.

Alexander Isak was not involved against Burnley, with the striker set to make his debut in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid in midweek.

Liverpool could start the season with four successive Premier League wins with victory at Burnley, something they have not done since the 2019/20 season.

Jeremie Frimpong returned to the bench against Burnley, with the Dutchman finally returning from a hamstring injury suffered in the Premier League opener.

Liverpool fans fume at ‘pathetic’ Milos Kerkez dive

Kerkez had looked to find space inside the Burnley box in the 22nd minute, after combining well with Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo.

The 21-year-old looked set to deliver a cross into the box with several players waiting, but instead threw himself to the ground after feeling some slight contact on the shoulder.

The dive was not thinly veiled, and referee Michael Oliver instantly blew his whistle and pointed towards the Liverpool goal.

Kerkez could have no complaints as the official reached for his yellow card, booking the left-back for a clear act of simulation.

Liverpool fans reacted on social media, with one calling the dive “pathetic” and another saying the moment was “silly”.

One fan even went as far as to say he “would sub Kerkez off immediately” after the dive.

Another called the dive “ridiculous”, another “embarrassing”, and one said “we don’t do that at LFC”.

Milos Kerkez substituted after ‘ridiculous’ moment

Slot clearly agreed with the Liverpool fans’ disgruntlement, substituting Kerkez before half-time in a moment of embarrassment for the left-back.

The Hungarian had been involved in another risky moment just minutes earlier, when Jaydon Anthony controlled the ball on the half-way line before he was dragged down by the Liverpool man.

With the potential for a second yellow card and a subsequent sending off likely looming, Slot made the sensible decision to replace the defender with Andy Robertson.

Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports: “I think that’s good management from Slot. What Kerkez did in the first half – with the booking – was ridiculous.”
