Liverpool travel to Burnley looking to extend their lead in the Premier League.

Liverpool entered the international break as the league leaders after a 1-0 win over Arsenal at Anfield, where Dominik Szoboszlai scored an unbelievable free-kick.

A win at Turf Moor would represent Liverpool's best start to a campaign since the 2019/20 season under Jurgen Klopp, and would move them three points clear after Chelsea failed to win at Brentford.

Alexander Isak signed for Liverpool on deadline day from Newcastle United for £125million, but some shock news has come out of the Reds changing room.

Alexander Isak not involved for Burnley clash

Isak has been deemed not fit enough to feature at all for Arne Slot's side at Burnley.

After going on strike to force through a move to Anfield, Isak has not been able to ramp up his fitness enough to feature for the Reds as of yet, having only seen 28 minutes of action during the international break for Sweden against Kosovo.

The news that the Swede is not involved at all will come as a shock to supporters, who expected the striker to at least be on the bench and get some minutes ahead of Wednesday's Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid.

Hugo Ekitike continues to lead the line for the Reds, having impressed so far with goals against both Bournemouth and Newcastle.

Alexander Isak's absence is a blow to Liverpool

Isak is Liverpool's most anticipated signing of the summer, and fans can't wait to see their new superstar in action.

The news of his absence is a blow, given the difficulty of the fixtures that are coming up for the Reds, with Atletico, Everton and Chelsea coming before the international break.

For the game with Burnley, the impact of his absence is yet to be seen, but the Reds are expected to deal with Scott Parker's side with relative comfort.

Isak will have to wait to have his say on the title race, but for now Hugo Ekitike will get to continue his run up top for Slot.
