Arne Slot shows his trust in Liverpool star with massive call vs Burnley

Arne Slot has made some big calls in recent weeks as Liverpool boss.

Liverpool have made a perfect start to their Premier League title defence, with Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick against Arsenal making it three wins from three.

Liverpool travel to Burnley on Sunday looking to make their best start to a league campaign since the 2019/20 season under Jurgen Klopp, but will have to proceed without Alexander Isak, who was left out of the travelling squad.

Slot‘s side haven’t been at their best defensively so far, with Ibrahima Konate coming under major criticism in recent weeks, but the Dutchman looks as though he’s found a solution at one part of the backline.

Dominik Szoboszlai starts at right-back again

Szoboszlai has enjoyed a great start to the season, but has done so in the unfamiliar role of right-back.

The midfielder has been forced into the right-back role for the wins over Newcastle and Arsenal due to an injury to Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong has recovered to make the squad, but both he and Conor Bradley have found themselves back on the substitute’s bench in favour of the Hungarian.

Szoboszlai has seen his attacking-midfield role taken by new signing Florian Wirtz, but has begun to thrive in unusual positions as a result.

Dominik Szoboszlai can make Liverpool right-back position his own

It came as a shock when fans saw the Hungarian starting at right-back at St. James’ Park, but he came out of the Tyneside clash with flying colours despite the Reds’ continued troubles at the back.

The next week, he put in a man-of-the-match performance to help Liverpool over the line with a massive win over title rivals Arsenal at Anfield, which was capped off with his match-winning free-kick.

Slot’s side looked so much more secure against Arsenal, and a lot of that is due to the Hungarian’s energy down the right flank, with fans comparing it to some of the best seen from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Another outstanding performance against Burnley could see Szoboszlai take a huge grasp on the starting right-back role, ahead of tough fixtures against Atletico Madrid, Everton and Chelsea.
