Liverpool have seen many stars emerge from their academy in recent years.

Trent Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid this summer after a remarkable nine seasons starring for the Anfield club.

The likes of Conor Bradley, Curtis Jones and Jarrell Quansah have risen into the first team lately, with Rio Ngumoha becoming the latest Liverpool youth star.

Liverpool are set to overhaul their academy, with a £20million plan, which should only help the next generation that are coming through.

Trey Nyoni can be the latest Liverpool academy star

Trey Nyoni starred in Liverpool's pre-season campaign, and it is surely only a matter of time before he asserts himself amongst the senior squad.

The former Leicester academy ace can play in five positions, although he is primarily a central midfielder, he has also appeared as a centre-back, defensive midfielder and centre-forward.

His most recent display for England's Under-19's team was at left-back, and he impressed despite the unfamiliar position that he was playing in.

He completed 93 per cent of his passes in the contest and won two of the three ground duels that he attempted.

Liverpool fans will know Trey Nyoni soon if they do not already

Nyoni is one of the brightest talents in the Reds' youth ranks.

At this point, he needs first-team football, with the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of him in the pecking order.

  • Nyoni joined Liverpool from Leicester's youth ranks in September 2023
  • He has made 45 appearances in the Reds' academy, with nine goal contributions
  • Made his senior debut off the bench against Southampton in the FA Cup in February 2024
  • Six appearances for the first team, five have came under Slot

The best option for Arne Slot may be to send him out on loan to a Championship club, so he can gain regular senior experience.

His latest exploits will have caught the eye of Slot, and he may not be able to ignore the 18-year-old for much longer.

Reds supporters will know Nyoni's name soon, if they have not been keeping a close eye on his progress already.
