Liverpool discussing permanent exit for player Jurgen Klopp called ‘sensational’
Liverpool look like they could be in for a busy end to the summer transfer window.
Naturally, most of the attention will be on Alexander Isak and his proposed move to Anfield; however, that is not the only deal involving the Reds that is on the cards.
Marc Guehi has also been linked with Liverpool throughout the summer, and the Crystal Palace defender could make the move to the Premier League champions before Monday’s transfer deadline.
However, a long-standing servant for Liverpool that Jurgen Klopp previously waxed lyrical about could be set to make an emotional exit from the Merseyside outfit.

Joe Gomez subject of a bid from AC Milan
Gomez, 28, was limited to just nine Premier League appearances last season as Slot’s men cruised to the Premier League title.
- Gomez struggled with two hamstring injuries last season, which limited his involvement
- Of Gomez’s nine Premier League appearances last season, only six of those were starts
- The defender only managed to play a total of 526 league minutes last campaign
However, the Englishman’s decade-long spell at Liverpool could be coming to an end, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano on X on 31 August.
AC Milan have reportedly sent an official bid to Liverpool for Gomez, with negotiations now underway between the two clubs.
The potential deal is said to be a permanent one, with Gomez only allowed to leave if Guehi signs for the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp full of praise for Gomez in the past
Throughout his spell at Liverpool, the defender was never the first name on the team sheet, but Gomez has been a useful utility man over the years, particularly under Klopp.
Filling in at both centre-back and right back, Gomez’s contribution to Liverpool’s success certainly did not go unnoticed by the German manager.
“Joe jumped between right-back and centre-half, which is not perfect when you have no rhythm. If you are in a good moment, it’s no problem, but in that moment, Joe had no real rhythm, and that’s why he struggled a little bit.
“But since he is playing as a centre-half again – his natural position – together with Virg there is exceptional. He is a sensational footballer, which is good,” Klopp said.
“He has outstanding speed, which helps us a lot to keep our last line high; he is a really good challenger; good in one-on-one situations; football-wise, I said already, good.
“The package is really nice. It was always clear in the moment he starts playing and can get rhythm again, everything will be fine – and that’s how it is.”
If Gomez were to make the move to Italy, perhaps it would be unfortunate timing, as Ibrahima Konate’s poor start to the season would presumably mean a spot in the heart of the Liverpool defence is up for grabs.
However, at this stage of his career, Gomez cannot be blamed if he wants to move to a club where he knows he will more or less start every game when he is fit.
