Liverpool fans in hysteria after what happened to Trent Alexander-Arnold vs Real Oviedo

Liverpool fans still hold a bad taste in their mouths when talking about Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid this summer for £8.4million after he confirmed he would be leaving following the expiration of his contract at Anfield.

His exit wasn’t smooth, though, as Liverpool fans booed Alexander-Arnold against Arsenal in May after he confirmed his departure.

Alexander-Arnold struggled on his Real Madrid debut against Osasuna, which the Spanish giants won 1-0 thanks to a Kylian Mbappe penalty, and what happened against Real Oviedo has shocked everyone.

Trent Alexander-Arnold dropped vs Real Oviedo

Madrid were victorious in their second game of the season with a comfortable 3-0 win at Oviedo, with a double from Mbappe and a late strike from Vinicius Junior.

However, when the team sheets came out, fans noticed Alexander-Arnold‘s name on the bench, with Dani Carvajal starting ahead of him.

There were reports pre-match that Alexander-Arnold should prepare to sit on the Real Madrid bench should his form not improve, but Xabi Alonso has decided to drop him after just one league game.

This statement of intent from Alonso has come as a shock to most fans, given how hard the 15-time European Champions worked to get the right-back out of Liverpool in the first place.

Liverpool fans continue to be relentless on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s back

Alexander-Arnold’s ugly exit has left Liverpool fans largely despising the 26-year-old, tarnishing his legacy at Anfield forever.

So seeing the Reds academy graduate struggling in the Spanish capital has brought great joy to many fans of the Merseysiders, with most showing zero sympathy.

In years to come, wounds may begin to heal, and the relationship between Alexander-Arnold and the Liverpool fans can be repaired.

But for the moment at least, especially whilst the right-back remains in La Liga, he will continue to receive frosty treatment from his boyhood club.
