Mohamed Salah sends ‘special’ message after creating Premier League history at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah will go down as one of the greatest Premier League legends for his accomplishments at Liverpool.

After a phenomenal season, Salah reminded spectators of his brilliance when he scored as Liverpool secured all three points against Bournemouth at Anfield.

The Egyptian forward’s last-minute strike came six minutes after Federico Chiesa gave Liverpool the lead at home.

While his teammates have put in a shift these past few weeks, it is Salah who continues to make headlines.

Salah issues message after PFA win

On Tuesday, 19 August, Salah won the 2025 Professional Footballers’ Association players’ Player of the Year award.

Salah made Premier League history as he became the first player to collect the prestigious men’s award three times.

This comes after Salah had one of the greatest seasons seen in the top flight. He scored 29 goals for his side and provided 18 assists as Liverpool lifted the title last season.

After receiving the award on 20 August via X, Salah issued a special message to his 19.4million followers.

He said: “This very special award hits different when we have an important trophy to go along with it. Being champions is what matters and we will fight to do it again this season. I am incredible grateful to the players who voted for me.”

What role will Salah undertake this season?

Salah, coming off a legendary season, has set the bar pretty high for the next.

There is no doubt that Liverpool fans will want to see Salah reach even greater heights at Anfield, but there is reason to suspect that he will accept more of a secondary role this season.

Hugo Ekitike is the man of the moment in Merseyside. Liverpool signed Ekitike from Frankfurt this summer, and he has since stunned spectators with his performances.

As well as netting in Liverpool’s defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield, he scored the opening goal and assisted in their first Premier League game of the season.

Against Bournemouth, Ekitike took more shots than Salah and created the same number of chances. Meanwhile, he reached a higher top speed and recorded more goal contributions.

Last season, Salah had little competition on the goalscoring front. But the addition of Ekitike, who is young, a capable goalscorer and hungry to compete, could see the Egyptian become more of a facilitator.

With greater competition in the attack and a bigger, more improved squad, Salah may struggle to stand out amongst the crowd this season.
