Newcastle to ‘fight tooth and nail’ as Liverpool ready to sign Isak – Exclusive

Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

The Reds’ approach was widely reported on Tuesday (15 July), and Liverpool News understands they have made a £130million bid.

Isak scored 23 goals and bagged six assists in 34 matches in the Premier League last season, so it is no surprise that he is attracting interest from Arne Slot‘s side.

The Dutchman has grown frustrated with his attacking options and believes that the Swedish star is the best option to take his side to the next level, alongside Mohamed Salah.

Newcastle to fight amid Liverpool Isak bid

Newcastle will not allow their star man to move to Anfield with ease; they will do everything they can to keep him in Tyneside beyond the end of the transfer window.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the opportunity to move to Merseyside would appeal to Isak, but he may have to force his way out.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, he said: “Obviously, Isak would be a sensational signing for Liverpool.

He is top class, and the lure of joining the champions would make plenty of appeal.

But you would think Newcastle will fight tooth and nail to hold on to their prized asset, or drive the hardest bargain if the player himself makes it clear he wants out.”

Liverpool needs to push for Isak

It will be a very complicated transfer to pull off and it will involve a huge sum of money, but Fenway Sports Group have already shown that they are willing to back Slot this summer.

If Isak is his man, and the Reds have received encouragement from his camp, then the saga will likely drag on through the summer as they try and convince the Magpies to part ways with the forward.

Eddie Howe’s side will try and keep hold of the 52-cap international, but if he requests a transfer and the money is right, would they stand in his way?

That is a question that will only be answered when the Merseysiders decide to test their resolve and Isak makes a formal attempt to leave.

Until then, it remains to be seen whether Isak will end up in red next season.
