Steven Gerrard ‘denied dream return to Liverpool’ after Slot decision made
Steven Gerrard will not be returning to Liverpool anytime soon.
The former Anfield skipper made 710 appearances for his boyhood club, winning several trophies, including the Champions League and an FA Cup.
His managerial career has stalled after a glorious stint with Rangers, with spells at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq not bringing success.
However, he was a contender to return to Merseyside after a new development involving Arne Slot‘s coaching staff.

Kuyt will not return to Liverpool as agent speaks out
Slot is looking for a new coach after former Everton star John Heitinga left to manage Ajax after just one season with the Reds.
Iconic former player Dirk Kuyt was linked with a return as a replacement for the departing ex-Blues ace but that move will not happen.
That would have seemingly left Gerrard in pole position but it seems like his dreams will be dashed after a new decision from Slot.
A report from Paul Joyce (12 June) claimed that the Reds are closing in on his fellow former Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Gerrard comeback off amid Van Bronckhorst news
The move would have made sense for the 45-year-old as he does not seem like a top contender for any of the vacant roles in football at the moment.
The Liverpool legend is linked with the role at Middlesbrough but he has been the favourite for several jobs and then not been handed the chance to take the role.
He seemed primed to return to Ibrox but ruled himself out of the running but surely if the Reds came calling, he would have came back in a heartbeat as he is known as Mr. Liverpool due to his loyalty when the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid were calling.
It would have given the ex-Red a chance to refine his management skills under Slot, who is one of the best in the game at the moment after guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title.
It seems as though Slot would rather bring in a coach that he already knows and there are few more accomplished than the former Netherlands international would be willing to take a step back from management.
Just like Slot, the 50-year-old won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord in the 2016-17 season and he has also won the KNVB Cup twice with the Rotterdam-based outfit.
He also guided the Gers to Scottish Cup success and a Europa League final runners-up spot in the 2021-22 season after Gerrard had won the league the previous season.
Gerrard will have to wait to take him next step into coaching but one thing is for certain, it will not be with the Reds.
