Liverpool sign contracts for first summer transfer, announcement imminent

Liverpool are set to announce their first signing of what promises to be a busy summer.

Arne Slot and his team will be eager to replicate last season’s success and challenge on all fronts in the upcoming campaign.

However, a host of players are expected to leave Liverpool this summer. Therefore, the Reds will need to bring in adequate replacements.

And it seems as though the Anfield side are wasting no time doing that with one player already signing his contract with Liverpool as the Reds seal their first summer transfer.

Liverpool set to announce Jeremie Frimpong signing

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (30 May), Frimpong’s move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen has been all signed and sealed.

The Reds have secured their replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold for a fee of £29.4million, with an official announcement now imminent.

Frimpong will bring a new dynamic to Liverpool’s right flank as the Reds look to revamp both full-back positions this summer.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has been linked with a move to Anfield to replace the outgoing Andy Robertson on the left side of defence.

Liverpool gear up for new-look full-back pairing

With a new full-back pairing on the way, the champions’ defence is set for a significant shake-up ahead of next season.

Frimpong is an exciting addition, with the 24-year-old expected to play in an advanced role on the right flank. Involved in much of Bayer Leverkusen’s attacking play, Frimpong was one of the key focal points last season as the German side finished second in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich.

Kerkez is also set to add defensive security on the left, paired with attacking ability, making him the ideal pick-up for the left flank.

Liverpool are also exploring new attacking options, with several players expected to depart as the club searches for a striker and an attacking midfielder. Florian Wirtz is looking likely to join the club in what would be a significant – and expensive – transfer for the champions.

Meanwhile, the Reds haven’t made significant strides in their striker pursuit yet, though Hugo Ekitike is emerging as a potential option.
