Liverpool fans ‘spiteful’ as social media trolls blasted over Alexander-Arnold – Exclusive

Liverpool will lose Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer.

The 26-year-old announced his decision to leave his boyhood club after winning the Premier League for a second time.

It has now been confirmed that will join Real Madrid, with a €10m (£8.5m) fee reportedly agreed between the two sides, meaning that he can play in the FIFA Club World Cup.

It is safe to say that Liverpool supporters have not reacted well to his impending departure in the last few weeks.

Liverpool fans urged to be ‘stylish’ amid Alexander-Arnold exit

The Anfield icon was labelled as a narcissist by supporters for his farewell message after the trophy parade on Monday.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the Reds star is in a lose-lose situation amid the fan reaction to his exit.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, he said: “I think some people are just on his case, aren’t they? He can’t win, I don’t think really, with the situation that he is in.

“What he has tried to do is say a charming and graceful farewell to the fans. I thought it was heartwarming to see the response that he got on the final day of the season after what had happened in the previous home game.

“My view is, he should leave and everybody should be stylish enough to say it is a fond farewell, ‘thanks for the memories, Liverpool were fantastic for him and he was fantastic for Liverpool’.

“He has moved to Real Madrid and that is just part of football; you would hate to think that there was any sort of lingering bad taste.

“It is quite a spiteful world out there on social media, but footballers do move on, you know, Michael Owen moved on, Steve McManaman wanted to spread his wings back in the day, it happens and I don’t think everyone should move to fever pitch about it.”

Alexander-Arnold fury will soon blow over at Liverpool

While it has been an emotional time for fans, seeing one of their own, who has lived their dream, move on to greener pastures, they will be less angry eventually.

Fenway Sports Group are set to back Arne Slot to improve his squad in the transfer market and if the Reds continue to win, the England star’s exit will be forgotten about.

Some will still be upset, as they hold the belief that Jamie Carragher stated earlier this season, that it is the pinnacle to win everything at your boyhood club, but that is modern football.
