Salah could’ve moved to Saudi Arabia

Transfer speculation has filled the air in Liverpool for the whole season. Fans feared that their captain, Virgil van Dijk, their local lad Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Salah could all have been on their way out.

In an interview with Egyptian broadcaster ON Sport (25 May), the Premier League’s top scorer for 2024-25 revealed the difficulty of signing the contract:

“The negotiations were long, I know the club’s policy, and we reached a middle ground that made us all happy,” he said.

“Part of the pressure on the club came from the fans, I know from the start that they wanted me to continue, and they played their role in all of this.”

Salah signed a deal keeping him at the club for two more years, but confessed that the rumours swirling about a Saudi move were true.

He said: “It was a good opportunity for me, if I hadn’t renewed with Liverpool, it would have happened.

“My relations with SPL officials are very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious.”

Salah to play a vital part in Liverpool’s future

Salah has played every league fixture for Liverpool this season, netting 29 goals and recording 18 assists. He won the Premier League Player of the Season, and is now the highest-scoring player from abroad in the English top flight with 185 goals.

The club likely persuaded the 32-year-old to stay by telling him of their summer ambitions, alongside improved contract terms.

The Kopites will reinforce to defend their title, hoping to land the likes of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and even Harry Kane.

Jeremie Frimpong has already reportedly agreed to join the 20-time English champions, replacing Alexander-Arnold, who is leaving on a free to join Real Madrid.

Luis Diaz could leave in the summer as he is wanted by Barcelona manager Hansi Flick. Darwin Nunez, who hasn’t featured all too frequently on Arne Slot’s side this season, is likely to be sold.

Aston Villa are looking at Andy Robertson as a transfer target, ,meanwhile, but Liverpool are thought to be blocking this.

Whatever the side at Anfield will look like next season, one thing is for certain: The Egyptian King is needed by Liverpool, who may face a tougher title challenge next year.
