Mamardashvili waves farewell in emotional message after Liverpool developments

Giorgi Mamardashvili was emotional as he said farewell to Valencia.

The Georgian stopper will finally join Liverpool ahead of the new Premier League season, after the two sides reached a deal last summer.

He is expected to play a back-up role with Alisson Becker still shining between the sticks for the Premier League champions at Anfield.

Mamardashvili sends emotional message ahead of Liverpool move

The 24-year-old will link up with his Anfield teammates for the new campaign after finishing his time with Valencia.

The former Dinamo Tbilisi goalkeeper played his final match for the Spanish club with a 1-0 loss against Athletic Bilbao on 18 May.

He took to Instagram after the contest to send a message to the Valencianistas, saying: “Now it’s time to say goodbye.

“Thank you to everyone who stood by me during these four years.

“I believe I left a small story behind in Valencia, and I truly hope this club will always stay where it belongs — at the top.”

Liverpool have exciting future with Mamardashvili

Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world but unfortunately, he is not getting any younger and will need replacing one day.

Caoimhin Kelleher was primed to take over but he does not want to wait for regular first-team football, so an exit seems likely this summer, with the likes of Leeds and West Ham interested in his services.

Given the Irishman’s impressive career as a back-up to the Brazilian, eyebrows were raised when the Reds signed Mamardashvili, but it is clear to see why they did, he is one of the most exciting talents in world football.

He burst onto the scene with the Georgian national team at the European Championships in 2024 and has kept eight clean sheets in La Liga this season in a struggling team.

The Georgia star will take over the number one jersey eventually, and he will likely improve on his recent performances with the Spaniards, given the fact that he will have the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk in front of him, who are among the best defenders in the game.

Fenway Sports Group seem to be making a huge push to back Slot in the market as he seeks to defend the title, with moves for Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez progressing along but the most important addition in the long term may be the deal that was completed last summer.
