Paul Merson staggered at brilliant transfer he’s heard Liverpool can pull off
Liverpool are not resting on their laurels as they prepare to assemble a squad capable of retaining the Premier League.
The Merseyside club are primed for mass investment, knowing how difficult it is to win back-to-back league titles.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold departing the North West, the Reds have gaps to fill in their already strong squad.
News on potential arrivals is gathering pace, and Paul Merson has had his say on what he has heard.

Merson shares thoughts on Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool
Last summer, Liverpool invested very little into their squad, with Frederico Chiesa one of two signings.
That paid unexpected dividends as Arne Slot guided the Merseyside club to the Premier League title in his first season.
Player | Arrived from | Fee |
Frederico Chiesa | Juventus | £10million |
Giorgi Mamardashvili | Valencia | £29million |
This summer looks set to follow an alternative narrative, and the Reds have already been linked with several players.
Jeremie Frimpong appears to be the heir to Alexander-Arnold’s throne and looks likely to move to Anfield.
Another player linked with the champions is Florian Wirtz, who is set to depart Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.
Paul Merson chimed in on the transfers that Liverpool could pull off when previewing their Premier League encounter with Brighton on Sportskeeda (15 May).
He said: “There is talk of them signing Jeremie Frimpong and reports of an enquiry about Florian Wirtz.
“That kind of recruitment is what will help you dominate football. Some teams refuse to do that after finding success and they get caught!
“We’re hearing the release clause for Frimpong is just £35million – that’s a brilliant deal for a player of his quality.
“A cup of tea at this day and age if you ask me.”

Wirtz signing could secure Premier League title
Wirtz is one of the hottest properties in world football right now, and it is easy to see why.
The 22-year-old has made his mark at Leverkusen and was instrumental in securing their premier Bundesliga title.
He has 81 goal contributions in five Bundesliga campaigns and has lit up the international stage with Germany.
With Wirtz expected to leave the German outfit, Liverpool are one of several clubs touted as a possible destination.
If the Reds can pull off signing the midfielder, then he can take the Merseyside club to the next level.
Of course, Slot will also need a new forward for Wirtz to supply his assists to, but that is surely an inevitability.
By beating their rivals to his signature, Liverpool could secure another title with such an astute piece of business.
