West Ham have to sell to afford Kelleher transfer from Liverpool – Exclusive

Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to leave Liverpool this summer.

The Reds stopper has featured 10 times in the Premier League this season with injuries hampering Alisson several times.

However, he remains behind the Brazilian in the pecking order and is believed to be seeking an exit with Giorgi Mamardashvili arriving in the summer.

The likes of West Ham and Leeds United have been linked with moves for the 26-year-old as he looks to secure a first-team berth.

West Ham pursuit of Kelleher hits a roadblock

The Hammers have been consistently speculated to be chasing the Anfield stopper as he nears a move away from Merseyside.

However, their pursuit of the Republic of Ireland international may have hit a snag after a new reveal on their transfer plans for the summer.

The Standard reporter Dom Smith, exclusively told Liverpool News that a move for Kelleher could be complicated due to the financial position that the East London club find themselves in.

“West Ham are considering their goalkeeping options due to the fact 40-year-old Lukasz Fabianski’s future is not certain,” he said.

When asked how much they would be willing to pay for Kelleher, Smith added: “This remains to be seen, but West Ham will be strapped for cash this summer and are effectively in a sell-to-buy situation.”

Liverpool may have to reduce Kelleher demands

The Reds may have to reduce their demands for Kelleher if the Irons cannot afford to reach a deal this summer.

There is no future for the Irishman at the L4 outfit since Alisson is expected to continue as number one and the Georgian international is set to move this summer.

Kelleher has earned the chance to start in the top flight, rather than being third-choice on Merseyside and an exit must be sanctioned as it benefits both parties.

Fenway Sports Group are set to back Arne Slot to overhaul his title-winning squad in the transfer market and any funds that they can raise would help the rebuild.

The career back-up may finally be set to step out of the Brazilian’s shadow and show the world his potential on a regular basis, rather than in a handful of appearances every season.
