Arne Slot already given new Liverpool challenge after Premier League title

Arne Slot has had an almost-perfect first season with Liverpool, winning the Premier League title.

Although there were concerns about how the Dutchman would do, stepping into the shoes of Jurgen Klopp, the transition has been seamless.

Thanks to the success of the campaign, vital players in Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have committed their futures to Anfield, providing plenty of hope for next season already.

However, Slot and his men may have a bigger challenge to face with recent suggestions.

Liverpool set for further competition next season

While the Premier League has been a breeze for the Reds this term, Liverpool fell just short when it came to cup competitions.

Newcastle United deservedly beat Slot’s men in the Carabao Cup final before a dominant PSG knocked the Merseyside outfit out of the Champions League.

An FA Cup defeat against Plymouth Argyle also seemed to teach Slot a lesson about playing too much of a weakened squad.

However, it’s not just in the cup that Liverpool need to focus their attention next season, as it has also been suggested that the teams around them could step up their game.

Throughout the campaign, it has been suggested by some that Liverpool have not been as good as it would first appear and the reason why has been highlighted.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (7 May, 6:57 am), Alan Brazil admitted: “You’ve got to say, look I’m taking nothing away from Liverpool here right, but you’ve got to say City and Arsenal have under-achieved.”

Ally McCoist was quick to agree as he replied: “Oh absolutely. That’s nothing to do with Liverpool, though. Liverpool thoroughly deserved the title.”

“Liverpool have been the best side by a distance. You’re right, what you say, but that shouldn’t take anything away from Liverpool’s achievement.”

Slot to add to Liverpool and rise to the challenge

As McCoist points out, Brazil is not wrong in his analysis of Manchester City and Arsenal’s seasons, but that can’t take anything away from the Reds.

Up until winning the title, Slot’s men had lost just two league games throughout the campaign, which is certainly a form that is no fluke.

In addition to this, the Merseyside outfit can only beat what is put in front of them and they have risen to the challenge time after time.

Although there could be a perceived threat in the second and third-placed Premier League sides if they strengthen ahead of next term, the Liverpool boss will also be looking to add to his team too which surely increases the threat of his side as well.

With a good mix of experience and youth in the Liverpool side, the Reds have to use these comparisons to their advantage next term and prove that their success was not by chance but rather hard work and talent in their own team.

Next season would be perfect to shut everybody up.
