Robbie Fowler names player Liverpool must go all out to sign

Liverpool’s transfer window could be one of their most important in recent years after they lifted the Premier League title.

Arne Slot will have to bring in multiple key signings during the summer if the Reds want to remain champions.

Multiple positions need replacements or improvements at Liverpool if the club is to stay competitive.

A right-back is needed now Trent Alexader-Arnold confirmed he was leaving Liverpool this summer.

A new striker is also a must, with former Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler insisting that Slot must look at one particular player this summer.

Fowler wants Liverpool to sign ‘tremendous’ Watkins from Aston Villa

With Darwin Nunez looking like he will depart Anfield this summer, a striker is more needed than ever.

The Reds have lacked a out-and-out scorer for many seasons which could causes issues in the future as Mohamed Salah continues to age.

Alexander Isak has been linked to Liverpool as a potential Nunez replacement. However, Newcastle will likely demand a record fee for the Swede.

Now, Fowler has told Slot to look at Villa’s Watkins, who has been pushing for a move away from the midlands in recent month.

He told The i Paper (4 May): “You could look at Ollie Watkins.

“He doesn’t really fit the model in terms of what Liverpool want, given his age, but I’d go and get him for a couple of years because he’s a tremendous player and established and experienced in the Premier League.”

Watkins would be a perfect short-term solution for Liverpool

In the Premier League, there are few strikers better than Watkins. The England international has been one of the most prolific players in the English top flight for the past couple of seasons.

With rumours that he might be unhappy at Villa, Liverpool should look to sign the striker as a short-term solution.

Watkins would not doubt bring at least 30 goal contributions a season and would easily link up with the rest of Slot’s attack.

At 29 years old, the Villa star is not getting any younger, but he could still be a top player for another three to four years.

Hopefully, Watkins is at least on the shortlist at Anfield as they begin their preparations for the next campaign.
