Darwin Nunez controversy: Liverpool ace sends cryptic message in deleted post
Darwin Nunez finds himself in hot water after taking aim at Liverpool in a cryptic social media post.
The excitement is high at Anfield, as a draw against Tottenham on Sunday (27 April) would see Liverpool be crowned the champions of England for the 20th time.
However, there appears to be some level of frustration among some, especially Nunez, who continues to be overlooked by Arne Slot.
The Uruguay international has started only one Premier League game for Liverpool, amid suggestions that the Reds would have to pay Benfica an additional £4.3million if he started another match.

Nunez aims sly dig at Slot
While addressing the press ahead of the home game against Spurs, Slot was asked if the add-on clause had anything to do with Nunez being overlooked from the starting line-up.
The Dutchman was quick to pour cold water over such suggestions, insisting that not everything in the media must be believed.
Matches | Goals | Assists |
42 | 7 | 7 |
However, Nunez does not seem to be satisfied with his situation at Liverpool, as he took to social media to aim a sly dig at Slot.
In a social media post, the 25-year-old insisted that it is ‘no wonder’ he did not start for the Reds anymore.
“No wonder I didn’t play more, because the last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly…”, Nunez wrote on his personal X account before deleting the said post.
Liverpool to offload Nunez this summer
Nunez was quick to delete the said social media post, but eagle-eyed Liverpool fans had already seen it, meaning screenshots of it were spreading like wildfire.
The striker was seemingly keen to cover his tracks, as he published a good morning post instead, sharing a picture of himself with Alexis Mac Allister.
Nevertheless, it will not be a surprise if Nunez does not feature for the Anfield outfit at all between now and the season.
The Reds will already be looking to offload the former Benfica ace, who has failed to live up to his hefty price tag.
The Uruguayan has bagged seven goals and as many assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for the runaway Premier League champions.
While a total contribution of 14 is not bad, there is no doubt that Nunez must be doing more.
However, it appears the writing is on the wall for Nunez, as far as his Liverpool career is concerned.
