Arne Slot ‘softens blow’ after new Carlo Ancelotti to Liverpool bombshell

Liverpool are back on track and edging ever closer to getting their hands on the Premier League title after three points against West Ham.

The Reds have had a successful first season under Arne Slot, although the mood at Anfield took a turn of late after defeat in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

In addition to this, questions surrounding the future of key players Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk were causing jitters among the fanbase.

However, Slot’s side are picking up points again and Salah has committed his future to Merseyside, while Van Dijk is expected to follow in his footsteps.

Carlo Ancelotti makes Liverpool admission

Although Slot was welcomed to Anfield with open arms, there were plenty of concerns that he would take some time to adapt to what Jurgen Klopp left behind leading to the team suffering in the short-term.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman has taken the reins seamlessly while also showing that there is plenty of room to grow.

A Premier League title in a first season cannot be underestimated, although the Reds will be disappointed that they can’t get their hands on a trophy this season.

Liverpool found themselves outplayed by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, which saw the French side progress to the quarter-finals while they were dumped out.

Real Madrid would have been possible semi-final opponents for the Reds, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he could have been dragged to Liverpool in the past, as he told Italian news outlet RSI: “My dream was to coach Liverpool, but then I found myself at Everton and I experienced their rivalry, and now I am absolutely an Everton fan.

“I really liked the environment, because there is a spectacular passion for the colours. You also notice the suffering that the fan has for Liverpool, which for many years and still today is the best in the Premier League.”

Slot the perfect answer for Liverpool

Had you told Liverpool supporters before Slot’s arrival that Ancelotti had a dream to manage at Anfield, supporters would no doubt have been crying out for the boss, who is one of the best in Europe.

Liverpool have had a stronger league season.

However, his comments about rivals Everton and his experience there, suggest that any possibility of this happening is off the table.

Nevertheless, Liverpool can feel comfortable that the possible blow of that has been softened by Slot’s performance in his debut season with the Reds, and that is likely to only improve.

While there have been suggestions that Arsenal’s troubles have gifted the Merseyside outfit the title, Slot will be eager to use this as motivation for his team to succeed and achieve more next term.

With Salah tied down and van Dijk expected to be next, anything could be possible at Anfield going forward, and supporters certainly won’t be crying out in the hope of replacing their boss.
