Curtis Jones made his 16th Premier League start of the season as Liverpool beat West Ham 2-1 on Sunday to strengthen their grip on the title.

The midfielder has excelled under the stewardship of Arne Slot this term, making 40 appearances across all competitions, more than he ever made in a single season for former boss Jurgen Klopp.

Jones has notched three goals and six assists this season, most recently bagging an assist in a 2-0 win at Bournemouth on 1 February.

His regular game time under Slot has helped Jones establish himself in the England picture, as he has now made four senior outings for the Three Lions.

Jones featured for 68 minutes of Liverpool’s victory over West Ham before being replaced in favour of Dominik Szoboszlai.

After the Reds beat the Hammers, the 24-year-old wrote on Instagram: “One step closer.”

Slot has done a remarkable job at Anfield, while the Reds are now just two victories away from lifting the Premier League title in the Dutchman’s first season at the helm.

Liverpool have been dominant in the top flight this season, which is showcased by the 13-point lead they hold over second-place Arsenal.

But one of the most impressive aspects of Slot’s tenure so far is that he has only made one addition to the squad at Anfield, with summer signing Federico Chiesa.

However, the Italy international has seldom featured for the Reds this term, as Slot has instead opted to further develop the players who succeeded under Klopp.

Jones’ increasingly strong performances this season demonstrate just how good a coach the Reds boss is, as he has hit new heights for club and country.

The 24-year-old is now just one goal contribution away from managing double figures in terms of goals and assists for the first time in his career.
