Milos Kerkez reacts to breaking news on Van Dijk contract at Liverpool

Milos Kerkez appears to be keeping a close eye on Virgil Van Dijk’s contract status at Liverpool.

The Liverpool captain is out of contract at the end of the season, which has left fans worried throughout the 2024-25 campaign that he could be set to leave for free.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to do that when this season ends, as the England international is believed to be joining Real Madrid in the summer.

However, Van Dijk’s situation is less clear as the central defender hasn’t provided any real statement throughout the season, other than assuring fans he’s not worried about it.

But with time now starting to run out with this season, Van Dijk and Liverpool are going to have to make a decision regarding his long-term future.

Virgil Van Dijk has made a contract update

Liverpool might be cruising comfortably to the Premier League title, but behind the scenes, there is chaos due to the futures of Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Both men have remained key players under Arne Slot, just as they were for Jurgen Klopp, and the idea of them both departing the club would leave the team weaker.

However, Van Dijk has now given fans an update that has provided some positive hope for fans that he might stay.

Speaking to The Times (7 April), the Netherlands international said: “There is progress, yeah,” which fans have taken to mean that he is negotiating a new deal.

Fabrizio Romano shared that news himself on Instagram, and while it had the footballing world talking, there was an interesting person who liked it – Milos Kerkez.

Milos Kerkez’s future is uncertain

The fact that Kerkez liked the post is only going to add fuel to the fire that he might be Liverpool-bound at the end of the season.

Liverpool are believed to be in the market for a new first-choice left back this summer, and Kerkez has been on their radar to fill that gap.

Liverpool are readying a £42million transfer bid to try and sign the Bournemouth defender to improve Slot’s defensive options, and with Van Dijk’s contract news, the two men could end up being in the same lineup together next season.
