Alan Shearer explodes at ‘Awful’ Liverpool footage he saw v Fulham

Liverpool suffered their second defeat of the Premier League campaign when they were beaten 3-2 by Fulham on Sunday.

Alexis Mac Allister fired Liverpool into the lead with an impressive long-range effort, but goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi, and Rodrigo Muniz turned the tide for Fulham, who led 3-1 at halftime.

Luis Diaz scored the only goal of the second half, but it wasn’t enough to claim a point for the Reds, who suffered their first league defeat since September.

Arne Slot’s side still holds an unassailable 11-point lead over Arsenal in the Premier League title race, but they have now lost three of their last four games.

Alan Shearer hammers Liverpool’s defending v Fulham

Liverpool’s defeat at Craven Cottage marked their first away loss in the Premier League this season, and it came as a result of poor defending.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast (6 April), Alan Shearer said: “Liverpool were terrible.

“We haven’t said this many times this season, but they were awful, they were awful defensively. And (Virgil) Van Dijk got the runaround, (Andy) Robertson had an absolute nightmare, (Ibrahima) Konate didn’t do as well as he normally does.

“So defensively, they were awful, and I don’t think we’ve said that at all this season, you let them have an off day.”

Liverpool must respond to Fulham setback

The Reds are still set to deservedly lift the Premier League title at the end of a remarkable season in which their sheer quality and consistency have been unparalleled.

Liverpool have hit a poor spell of form

However, Slot’s men have hit a poor run of form, having now suffered three defeats in their last four games across all competitions, and will be looking to bounce back as soon as possible.

At the end of the season, the Reds will be thrilled to lift their first Premier League title since 2020, but it currently seems evident that the Merseyside giants are still hurting from last month’s setbacks, when they were knocked out of the Champions League by PSG before losing to the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle.

Liverpool boasts the sort of quality that could have led them to three trophies this term, and they will be disappointed that they are no longer competing for either the FA Cup or the Champions League.

But while Slot’s men are all but certain to lift the Premier League title, they must get back to winning ways to give a remarkable campaign the strong conclusion it deserves.
