Xabi Alonso wants to sign Liverpool star, £45m bid can seal summer deal

Liverpool could be raided by former midfielder Xabi Alonso this summer.

The Reds are gearing up to potentially win the Premier League this season in what has been a successful first campaign for Arne Slot, but his team could look drastically different next season.

It is already believed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is Real Madrid-bound in the summer transfer window as his Liverpool contract expires at the end of this season.

Meanwhile, Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are in the exact same position as their contracts are also up when this campaign ends.

There is a genuine fear among Liverpool fans that all three men will leave Anfield in the summer, which would have a significant impact on the squad’s quality, but they might not be the only players set to move on.

The future of Harvey Elliott is also being discussed at the moment after the midfielder has struggled to break into Slot’s team on a regular basis.

The England Under-21 international was a regular under Jurgen Klopp, but he has seen his role reduced throughout this campaign after failing to win over the new Liverpool boss.

That has led to the belief that the Reds might look to sell Elliott this summer to cash in on him, as it has been claimed the Premier League giants would be open to a “good offer” for his services.

According to the Sunday Mirror [page 68, 6 April], that has alerted the attention of Alonso, who believes he could tempt Elliott to Germany with the promise of Champions League football next season.

The Liverpool legend wants to continue strengthening his Leverkusen side to ensure that they remain competitive on all fronts, and it is believed that a £45million price tag has been set by Liverpool.

Bayer Leverkusen will have competition

Alonso might be an admirer of Elliott, but he’s not the only manager looking to sign him during the summer transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund have rejoined the queue to sign the attacking midfielder, as they had enquired about him during the January window.

There could also be an option for Elliott to remain in the Premier League as Newcastle United are also big fans of him, while Brighton are also keeping tabs on his progress.
