Diogo Jota sends message to Kelleher after Liverpool win v Everton
Liverpool took another giant step towards the Premier League title by beating Everton 1-0 in Wednesday’s Merseyside derby.
The Reds secured local bragging rights over the Toffees with their first derby win since October 2023 and re-established their 12-point lead over Arsenal.
Arne Slot’s men did well to bounce back after being knocked out of the Champions League by PSG and losing in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle before the international break.
Diogo Jota emerged as the star of the show on Wednesday when his sixth Premier League goal of the season proved enough to beat Everton.

Jota and Harvey Elliott respond to Caoimhin Kelleher message
Liverpool’s second-choice goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher had to step up to the plate on Wednesday amid a head injury suffered on Brazil international duty by Alisson Becker.
After keeping a clean sheet against the Toffees, the Ireland international wrote on Instagram: “Derby win.
“Liverpool is Red.”
Jota and Harvey Elliott shared their appreciation for the 26-year-old, as the Portugal international commented with a brick wall emoji while the England Under-21 star wrote: “Unreal”.
Liverpool charge towards Premier League title
Amid a largely successful campaign in which the Reds are all but certain to clinch their first Premier League title since 2020, Slot’s men encountered stumbling blocks in defeats against PSG and then Newcastle at Wembley.
Premier League table (Top two) | Games played | Goal difference | Points |
1 Liverpool | 30 | 43 | 73 |
2 Arsenal | 30 | 30 | 61 |
But the Anfield faithful were left delighted by Liverpool’s victory over local rivals Everton and will now expect a smooth run of wins, with only 13 points needed for the title.
Establishing a rich vein of form seems highly feasible for Slot’s side, who take on Fulham this Sunday before facing West Ham and relegation-threatened Leicester.
The Reds already hold an unassailable lead over Arsenal in the Premier League title race, but will push to win all nine points from their next three games.
Slot and Co then hit a trickier run of fixtures when they face Tottenham, Chelsea, and Arsenal across late April and early May, but upcoming encounters should prove fruitful for the Merseyside giants.
