Liverpool v Everton preview: Team news, head-to-head, where to watch

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Wednesday with a Merseyside derby as they take on Everton at Anfield.

Ahead of the international break, Arne Slot’s men crashed out of the Champions League and lost the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.

Nevertheless, the Reds remain top of the Premier League table and are 12 points clear of Arsenal in second, meaning the title is still very much in reach.

This time round, Liverpool are facing a better Everton side than they have for some time.

Liverpool v Everton preview

Some accused Liverpool of having a hangover from their Champions League exit against Newcastle at Wembley Stadium, and they certainly weren’t good enough on the day.

Slot’s men haven’t been in Premier League action since 8 March and, despite beating Southampton 3-1, the Reds did find themselves 1-0 down at half-time.

Everton are a much-improved side under the management of David Moyes and come into this game unbeaten in nine league games, meaning they will not be an easy opponent.

The last time the two sides met was for the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park in February, and a 98th-minute equaliser for the Toffees saw chaos ensue.

Players on both sides received red cards after the full-time whistle while Slot was also shown red for what he said to the officials at full-time.

With that in mind, this could well be another feisty affair between the two rivals.

The Toffees have a lengthy injury list and will be without Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil. Vitaliy Mykolenko picked up an injury on international duty that could rule him out of the game too.

Prediction Liverpool 2-2 Everton

Liverpool may well be keen to get back into form and get going again in the Premier League, but they may have to wait.

Everton are unbeaten in their last two games against Liverpool, and given their excellent form under Moyes, this will be a real battle.

The Reds have plenty of quality throughout their team although things have not been going to plan either on or off the pitch and that could continue to filter in through this game.
