Newcastle ‘could help Liverpool sign Alexander Isak’ after new transfer reveal

Liverpool may already have one eye on the summer transfer window courtesy of their 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds are no longer concentrating elsewhere after being knocked out of both the FA Cup and Champions League before being beaten by Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.

After suffering a penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and Wembley heartbreak, Arne Slot’s men will be determined to get the better of local rivals Everton in the Merseyside Derby on 2 April.

Meanwhile, the Reds already look set for a busy transfer window after it emerged that Trent Alexander-Arnold has agreed a deal to join Real Madrid ahead of next season.

Liverpool and Newcastle want double striker transfer

Slot’s men and Eddie Howe’s side recently locked horns at Wembley, but they could be set to work together across the summer.

Liverpool could be set to bid £100million for the services of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who has scored 23 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions this term.

Meanwhile, the Magpies have also set their sights on the Reds’ Nunez [TeamTalk], who has notched a significantly less impressive tally of seven goals in 40 outings this season.

Newcastle’s interest in Nunez could help Liverpool sign Isak

It is within the Reds’ interests to offload Nunez this summer, as he has struggled in front of goal for the Anfield outfit ever since signing from Benfica.

The Uruguay international’s inconsistent finishing had already frustrated the Liverpool faithful over both of the last two seasons, but he has proven even less clinical this term under Slot.

Isak would be a clear upgrade on Nunez, and the Sweden international’s services would even help soften the blow if talisman Mo Salah leaves Anfield this summer.

But the fact that the Magpies are interested in Nunez could give Liverpool an advantage in their pursuit of Isak, and they could even include the Uruguayan in any deal for the Newcastle man’s signature.

Somewhat ironically, the 25-year-old striker showed just how clinical he can be for Howe’s men when he scored in their Carabao Cup final victory over the Reds.

The Anfield faithful may even hope that, come next season, Isak could be leading their side to Wembley glory instead.
