Trent Alexander-Arnold could now ‘stay at Liverpool’ after Real Madrid bombshell

Liverpool supporters were left devastated by the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold could be closing in on a move to Real Madrid this summer.

Jamie Carragher was disappointed by the news that the long-serving right-back seems intent on departing Anfield when his contract expires.

Alexander-Arnold has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the world during his time on Merseyside.

His next Liverpool appearance will be his 350th for the Reds after he made his debut under Jurgen Klopp’s stewardship back in 2016.

Stephen Warnock says Alexander-Arnold could stay at Liverpool

The consensus among Liverpool supporters now is that the 26-year-old is certain to join Real Madrid ahead of next season.

But former Reds defender Warnock thinks that Alexander-Arnold could remain at Anfield, saying on Football Focus [29 March]: “I still think there’s an opportunity where he could stay.

“I think there’s still that element where he’s almost going, if you want me, you’re going to have to pay for me.”

Alexander-Arnold’s exit will leave Arne Slot with a big void to fill

Arne Slot is set to deliver the Premier League title in his first season in charge of the Merseyside club.

The Reds are still 12 points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League with only nine games remaining, and need another 16 points to deliver the main goal at Anfield.

Despite Liverpool’s recent exit from the Champions League and their Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle, which followed, there is no doubt that Slot has proven himself as a strong successor to Klopp.

Although Warnock believes that Alexander-Arnold may stay with the Reds, the full-back still seems highly likely to leave Anfield come the end of the season.

The defender’s exit would leave Slot with his toughest assignment yet, especially now that news has emerged that talisman Mo Salah seems more likely to stay with Liverpool.

Throughout his time with the Reds, local hero Alexander-Arnold has won an FA Cup, Premier League title, Champions League and two Carabao Cups, while his side are closing in on another league trophy.

The full-back is set to leave an incredible legacy behind, which Slot will find incredibly difficult to replace.
