Liverpool Exclusive: ‘Salah negotiations to ramp up’ after what happened at Anfield

Liverpool have yet to secure Mohamed Salah to a new contract.

The Egyptian has notched 44 goal contributions in 29 Premier League but is currently set to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

He could be joined by Virgil van Dijk, who looks likely to captain the Reds to the title but is yet to agree on fresh terms with his current deal expiring in the summer.

Liverpool to press on with Salah and Van Dijk deals

With Salah in such brilliant form and Van Dijk also excelling as the L4 outfit look to lift the league title in Arne Slot’s first season on Merseyside, the contracts have fallen to the wayside.

However, the Anfield club may be set to get the ball rolling on extensions for the duo, according to finance expert Dan Plumley.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, he said: “I think it was always going to depend on where they were on the pitch, the competitions they were in, and making sure the squad was fully focused on that.

“The Champions League is the one that will hurt the most, they are out of the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup did not got their way.

“It is now solely the Premier League and they have got a buffer there, and of course internally and externally they will be making sure that the players don’t let that slip and it is still all guns blazing.

But it does open up the opportunity, for me I think, to have those conversations in more detail because ultimately then you know where you are at as a club and you know what you are going to be offering those players if you want to.

“They will be in the Champions League again next season, which is a big plus for them, so yeah, I think it is highly plausible those conversations now go into more detail given what has happened on the pitch in the last couple of weeks.”

Van Dijk and Salah have to stay at Liverpool

The Reds cannot afford to lose Van Dijk and Salah as well as the England star, the summer rebuild that is already required would be too much if that was the case.

Plumley has previously estimated that it would cost over £200million for Liverpool to replace all three players, and with other areas of the playing squad needing upgrades, it is simply not feasible.

The duo must remain on Merseyside, if they do not, Fenway Sports Group will be the subject of major backlash from supporters.
