Trent Alexander-Arnold set for ‘perfect’ Liverpool exit as PSR twist emerges

Liverpool are preparing for a summer packed with transfer sagas, with Trent Alexander-Arnold looking likely to leave Anfield.

The Reds have found themselves in a difficult position with the England international out of contract, as well as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

However, it has been reported that Alexander-Arnold will likely be leaving Anfield at the end of the season, having agreed to join Real Madrid.

Troy Deeney reacts to Alexander-Arnold update

For the majority of the season, Liverpool have not had to worry about much at all, with Arne Slot making a seamless transition into his role as manager.

The Merseyside outfit find themselves sitting 12 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table and well on track to pick up the title this season.

However, they were reminded what failure tasted like just before the international break as they were knocked out of the Champions League and lost the Carabao Cup final in the space of a week.

Now, it seems as though there are further worries to come at Anfield with talks about the future of out-of-contract players finally starting to come to the surface.

Troy Deeney admits that the move is perfect for Alexander-Arnold, but he would have liked a transfer fee given PSR and other restrictions.

Reacting live on talkSPORT (25 March, 6:53am), he said: “I’ve said it, I feel like I’ve said it 20 times this season. He’s in a position where he’s done everything at Liverpool, he’s won everything.

“He’s given them a lot, I would have liked them to get some money for him, personally, because obviously for PSR and stuff like that.

“But it’s been a wonderful exchange, someone who’s come through the youth system, been captain of his boyhood club, won everything with his boyhood club.

“Now he’s not leaving to go to any other team, he’s going to Real Madrid, the biggest team in world football, so I think it’s perfect for him and fair play to him, he’s earned that right in my opinion.”

Liverpool have to focus on contract talks now

Between the trio of Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, it always seemed unlikely that Liverpool would be able to keep all of them at Anfield for an extended period.

All three players have been integral parts of the Liverpool team this season.

With Alexander-Arnold, the youngest of the three and not having played football elsewhere in his career so far, it’s not a massive surprise that he is the first one to be departing.

However, Slot now has to turn his attention to the situations of Salah and van Dijk, which are yet to be sorted out.

Van Dijk has been open in his frustration over a lack of clarity over his future, and after he was seen talking to PSG chiefs, there are concerns that he, too, could be eyeing up a move away.

Meanwhile, Salah’s reported request for a contract is high value, and there has been debate over whether he is worth taking the chance on at 32-years-old.

Slot will need to refresh his side if he is going to carry on the success he has shown in Merseyside so far, but if he fails to tie down any of his out-of-contract players, it could seriously put Liverpool back, going into next season.
