Luiz Diaz transfer no-brainer for Liverpool as ‘dream’ exit emerges
Liverpool have an easy decision to make in the summer after Luis Diaz made clear where he sees his long-term future.
Diaz has been an ever-present for Arne Slot’s side this season, with his 42 appearances behind only Mohamed Salah and 13 goals in all competitions making him Liverpool’s second-highest scorer.
Of those 42 appearances, 32 have been starts, yet the Colombian has fallen out of favour in recent weeks with just one goal in 2025 so far, and speculation growing over his long-term future at Anfield.
Having made little impact against both PSG as Liverpool were knocked out Champions League, and Newcastle in their EFL Cup Final loss five days later, Diaz is a player who need to rediscover his form.

Luis Diaz ‘waiting on Barcelona transfer’ amid Liverpool slump
Though the international break gives Liverpool some respite from a week which saw their hopes of a treble, and a double, go up in smoke, Diaz has at least returned to form, netting for Colombia in Brazil.
Player | Appearances | Starts | Goals | Assists | Yellow Cards |
Luis Diaz | 42 | 32 | 13 | 5 | 3 |
However, Mundo Deportivo reported on 22 March that Diaz is “waiting for Barcelona” to launch a transfer bid for him this summer, as he “dreams” of playing for the Blaugrana and wants them to sign him.
Diaz remains under contract at Anfield for two years, but sources close to him have said he “wouldn’t hesitate” to join Barcelona if the chance arises, having supported the LaLiga leaders since childhood.
With Mohamed Salah’s future also up in the air on Merseyside and potentially leaving on a free transfer, any approach for Diaz would allow Liverpool to bring in funds to sign a replacement, such as Leroy Sane.

Liverpool must be ready to cut ties with Luis Diaz
Although Liverpool’s number seven has been a regular feature since Slot took charge, his declining output and age – having turned 28 in January – could see the Reds greenlight a summer transfer.
With Diaz seemingly desperate for Barcelona to pluck him from Anfield – despite being well on course to collect a Premier League winners’ medal – Liverpool will see the winger as a player they can upgrade on.
Sane is joined by Alexander Isak on Slot’s transfer shortlist for the summer, and with Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold potentially all leaving for free, Liverpool will have to bring in funds elsewhere.
Reds fans anticipate a summer refresh despite Slot’s looking being set to romp to their 20th title, and as well as their golden trio possibly leaving for free, Diaz could be another part of the rebuilding process.
