Harvey Elliott injury update emerges after worrying sight v Newcastle
Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott limped after the EFL Cup final as he was brought down by Newcastle United’s Joelinton.
The Reds failed to win their first trophy of the season after a poor show at the Wembley Stadium which saw Newcastle win the Carabao Cup and end their 69-year trophy draught.
Arne Slot’s men were without Trent Alexander-Arnold, who picked up an ankle injury in the UEFA Champions League tie against PSG at Anfield as Jarrell Quansah deputised for him at right-back.
Liverpool seemed to have added more injury concerns to their list as Elliott was seen limping around after the game.

Elliott to miss Merseyside derby?
In the dying stages of the EFL Cup final, Elliott crafted a through ball to Federico Chiesa who did not make any mistake and scored for the Reds, but it was too late to inspire a comeback.
After the Liverpool goal, Elliott was tackled by Joelinton as the Englishman lay flat on the ground and a VAR review was triggered. Although nothing came out of it, Elliott seemed to have picked up an injury from the challenge.
He managed to see out the game but had to receive treatment on-pitch after the final whistle blew. To add misery to Liverpool’s loss, he was seen limping out of the Wembley Stadium, sparking fears of him missing the international action and casting doubts over his involvement in the Merseyside derby.
Competition | Matches | Goals | Assists | Minutes played |

Champions League | 5 | 3 | 0 | 168 |
EFL Cup | 3 | 1 | 1 | 114 |
FA Cup | 2 | 0 | 0 | 180 |
Liverpool will host Everton at Anfield soon after the international break ends and Premier League resumes.
Had Elliott withdrawn himself from the England U21 squad, it would have indicated that the injury is serious. However, the 21-year-old did not withdraw and has in fact joined Lee Carsley’s squad for the international friendlies.
Daily Mail reporter Nathan Salt posted England U21’s training video on X that showed Elliott training with the rest of the squad, suggesting that the Liverpool star has overcome the concern.
Slot must guide the Reds back to winning ways
International break couldn’t have come at a better time for Liverpool. Slot’s side had a horrendous week where they crashed out of the Champions League first and then lost the Carabao Cup final.
Liverpool need to regroup and focus on the only task at hand – winning the Premier League title. Although they have a 12-point lead and some might argue that the league is already wrapped up, the Reds cannot afford to lose momentum at this stage.
Once the players return from their international break, their focus will shift on the Merseyside derby and winning against Everton will surely boost the confidence of the players.
