Andy Robertson makes honest admission as Liverpool ‘close in on £40m replacement’

Andy Robertson may be 31 years old yet he is still a regular in the Liverpool side that are on the verge of landing the Premier League title.

The Reds sit at the top of the Premier League, 12 points clear of Arsenal, and will be looking to secure the title as quickly as possible so they can start looking ahead to the new season.

With a number of high-profile players out of contract with Liverpool at the end of the campaign, and the pressure on Slot’s side to back up their form in next year’s Premier League campaign, the manager will have to get his business right.

Liverpool eye up Robertson replacement

If Slot is going to oversee an extended period of success during his time at Anfield, he will have to make sure the squad is set up with the future in mind too.

Therefore, while players like Robertson continue to perform for the boss, bringing in younger successors can only help the team’s long-term plan.

According to the i Paper (20 March), one potential replacement that has been identified by Liverpool is Milos Kerkez and contact has been made with his representatives.

The report states that Bournemouth would not be willing to let go of the defender for anything less than £40million.

The Reds will also have to face competition against Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United if they want to gain the youngsters’ services.

However, the report adds that Kerkez favours a move to Merseyside and Liverpool are said to be closing in on his signature.

Robertson responds to replacement rumours

Kerkez has had a great season with Bournemouth and, still aged just 21, to snap him up now would be a long-term signing for Liverpool.

These links come amid a major downturn for Robertson this season, having seen his place in the side called into question.

Andy Robertson has been a core part of the Liverpool squad for some time.

While Liverpool supporters may be concerned about what this potential addition would mean for Robertson’s future on Merseyside, the Scotsman has confirmed that he is not worried.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference for Scotland, Robertson said “Liverpool have been linked with every left-back in the world” and that he is not concerned about fighting for his place.

As a player, you can’t let transfer rumours dictate how you perform on the pitch throughout a season, although if anything, it would surely push you on to a higher level of performance.

Robertson still has another year left on his Anfield contract, so even if Kerkez is signed by Liverpool in the summer, it seems unlikely that we will be seeing the Scotsman lay down and give up his place with ease.
