Diogo Jota ‘given green light for Anfield exit’ amid new Liverpool developments

Diogo Jota could fall victim to Arne Slot’s plans to overhaul his Liverpool squad in the summer transfer window.

The Portugal forward has struggled to overcome injury issues and has played a minimal role in the Reds’ charge to the Premier League title.

The 28-year-old has notched five goals and three assists in 18 league appearances but has failed to contribute in his last 10 matches, bar an assist in the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa (19 February).

Slot is understood to be frustrated with his attacking options, and Jota could find himself on the way out as a result.

Jota route to Anfield exit becomes clearer after Wolves development

Jota is a top-class attacker for Liverpool when he is on form, but he has been a shadow of his former self since returning from injury.

TEAMtalk (18 March) claim that the Reds are ready to offload the underwhelming star and are open to offers.

The report states that his former club, Wolves, are looking to bring the forward back to Molineux, with the asking price at £55million.

Liverpool need to bring in more quality

The Reds have been over reliant on Mohamed Salah this season, with the Egyptian notching 27 goals and 17 assists in 29 league matches.

The 32-year-old could leave for free in the summer with his contract running out and no new deal on the table at the moment.

The Anfield outfit needs their other attackers to step up, and Jota has not shown that he can do so in his recent appearances, as he has struggled to make an impact.

It is telling that, despite his own poor form, Darwin Nunez offers more to the Liverpool side than Jota at the moment with his pace and runs in behind.

Injuries have played a part, with the Portuguese star missing a total of 93 matches in his Anfield career, and he is never fit long enough to make a consistent impact.

It may be a case of what might have been when he looks back at his career on Merseyside.
