Liverpool shortlist emerges as Arne Slot ready for huge new Anfield transfer
Liverpool are planning major changes at Anfield in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Reds have endured a tough week where they crashed out of the UEFA Champions League before losing in the EFL Cup final to Newcastle United.
Arne Slot missed the chance to win his first trophy as the Reds boss as his side went 2-0 down and couldn’t inspire a Wembley comeback, eventually losing 2-1 to the Magpies.
While Mohamed Salah has been spectacular this season, he has suffered in recent weeks with too much responsibility being placed on his shoulders in the final third.
Attack needs to improve for Liverpool
Once upon a time, Liverpool had a lethal front three of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Salah. The trio were scoring goals for fun and leading from the front.
This season, the Reds have been over-reliant on Salah to get them out of difficult situations and as effective as the Egyptian is, at times he can have his limitations.
It is clear that the Merseysiders need to strengthen their attack in the summer and signing a striker is the primary solution. Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have struggled in front of goal with the duo scoring a combined total of 15 goals in all competitions.
According to TeamTalk, five forwards are on Slot’s shortlist already.
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been a target for a long time and the Premier League leaders are ready to pursue the Sweden international this summer.

Isak has 23 goals in 33 games in all competitions and scored Newcastle’s second goal in the EFL Cup final, showing Liverpool what they have been missing.
Apart from Isak, former Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez is also being monitored. Currently at Atletico Madrid, he has been admired at Liverpool from the days of Jurgen Klopp.
Brighton striker Joao Pedro is also on the shortlist and the player’s entourage has been sounded out over a potential transfer in the summer. Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is also admired by the Liverpool hierarchy.
Lastly, Wolves forward Matheus Cunha is also regarded as one of the top targets for Liverpool.
Slot must seal huge Isak transfer
While each of the names in the shortlist have merits of their own, Isak has to be the clear choice for Slot and Liverpool.
The former Real Sociedad man has been consistently posting solid goalscoring numbers at St. James’ Park and has shown what he can produce throughout the season.
While many argue that Erling Haaland and Salah are the best forwards in the Premier League, Isak makes a strong case to be considered in the same elite group. With Salah potentially leaving the Reds at the end of the season, he is the perfect man to come in and get goals of that magnitude.
Slot needs to sign a striker and there isn’t a better option on the market than Isak.
