Liverpool v Newcastle: Danny Murphy shares what he cannot see happening at Wembley
Liverpool are preparing for their second Carabao Cup final in three years as Newcastle United await at Wembley on Sunday.
The Reds are set to travel to the capital on 16 March for a clash against Eddie Howe’s side, just five days after losing on penalties to PSG.
Arne Slot will be keen to forget the defeat at Anfield and put his full focus into picking up his first silverware in charge on Merseyside.
With that in mind, former midfielder Danny Murphy has shared his belief of how the game could play out against the Magpies.

Murphy backs Liverpool for Carabao Cup win
The Anfield club will be hopeful of picking up their first trophy of the campaign ahead of hopefully securing a domestic double.
It won’t be easy against a Newcastle side who have plenty of quality, even if Anthony Gordon is missing through suspension.
The Reds are once again going to rely on the likes of Mohamed Salah to get them through the clash to help bounce back after defeat in mid-week.
This loss against the Parisians was Slot’s first in seven games and after going the season without falling to back-to-back defeats, Murphy has backed his old side to keep up that record.
Speaking on Match of the Day (15 March), he said: “Liverpool haven’t lost consecutive games this season and I don’t see it happening.
“It’ll be a good game, the two best midfield’s in the Premier League, I think, going up against each other so it’ll be a real battle in the middle of the park.”

Slot has tough task v Newcastle United
In the most recent clash between the two sides, the Reds eased to a 2-0 win but the Geordies will surely perform better on such a huge occasion.
Stat | Liverpool | Newcastle United |
Possession (%) | 61 | 39 |
Expected goals | 1.70 | 0.23 |
Passes | 594 | 366 |
Duels won | 53 | 43 |
The Magpies haven’t won a domestic trophy in nearly 70 years and will be keen to rid the hoodoo surrounding that failure.
Howe will heavily rely on Alexander Isak for a moment of magic while having the grit and determination of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali.
With that being said, Liverpool have quality of their own which could prove to be too much for the north east outfit on the day.
Fuel has been added to the L4 club’s fire with the defeat against PSG and that has to be put behind and forgotten, and how better to do so than win a trophy.
