Dominik Szoboszlai reacts as Liverpool share breaking news

Dominik Szoboszlai’s stock at Anfield is continuing to rise this season as Liverpool prepare to contest the EFL Cup final on Sunday.

The Hungary midfielder has been a near ever-present since Arne Slot’s arrival on Merseyside, making 39 appearances in all competitions so far this season and being a regular contributor of goals and assists.

Szoboszlai has registered seven goals and six assists across those appearances this term with nine combined in the Premier League for Liverpool – with Slot’s side on course to win the title at a canter.

Slot and Szoboszlai’s immediate task, however, is Sunday’s EFL Cup final clash with Newcastle United at Wembley, as the Dutchman looks to collect his first trophy as Reds boss by retaining last year’s crown.

Liverpool make official Szoboszlai announcement

The Reds are hardly in good form as they head to Wembley this weekend having been dumped out of the Champions League by PSG on penalties in midweek, but one player will be keen to make his mark.

Szoboszlai’s form in February against Bournemouth, Tottenham in the EFL Cup, Everton, Wolves, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle have seen him named on X as Liverpool’s Player of the Month.

Szoboszlai is registering good numbers for Liverpool this season

Speaking to Liverpool’s in-house media (15 March), Szoboszlai said: “It was a brilliant month for all of us, and also for me – I got in the rhythm where I wanted to be and I just hope to continue [that].”

Szoboszlai form can fire Liverpool to Wembley glory

Ahead of a cup final at the home of English football and its biggest stadium, Slot will be looking to his biggest players and characters to step up and deliver a second EFL Cup in two years for Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk was the hero in red 12 months ago as his extra-time header secured a 1-0 win for Jurgen Klopp’s depleted side over Chelsea, hoisting aloft the final trophy won by the German at Liverpool.

Van Dijk and players like Szoboszlai have the chance to do similar for Slot in differing circumstances, with the 46-year-old looking to win his first piece of Liverpool silverware at the earliest available opportunity.

Szoboszlai is likely to start in the number 10 role as he has so often for Liverpool this season, and having scored in last month’s 2-0 win over Newcastle, the 24-year-old will hope that lightning strikes twice.
