Liverpool set for ‘Huge’ achievement as new financial paperwork emerges – Exclusive

Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League in disappointing fashion this week, but will still consider this season a success as they edge towards Premier League glory.

The Anfield outfit looked like serious contenders to win the quadruple at one point this season, but will only add the league title and the EFL Cup to their trophy cabinet in the best-case scenario after PSG knocked them out of the Champions League last-16 on Tuesday.

While the likes of Mohamed Salah were evidently devastated after the game, Liverpool will not be too disappointed with their run in the 2024-25 season when all is done and dusted.

Arne Slot oversees seamless transition, avoids Jurgen Klopp hangover

Liverpool announced their financial results for the 2023-24 season on 28 February and in a section titled ‘player trading’, they explained that their net spend on transfer business is £0.1million, with the benefits reflected in the year ending 31 May 2025.

Dan Plumley described the fact that the Reds are on course to winning the Premier League with a net spend of £0.1m as a “huge achievement”, but pointed out that Arne Slot receiving an already good squad from Jurgen Klopp is a “caveat” to it.

The football finance expert is of the view that Slot taking the baton from Klopp without hiccups is a bigger achievement than the Merseyside-based winning the title without spending big.

Nevertheless, he expects the runaway English champions’ finances to look “very healthy” in this year’s accounts.

“You almost wonder sometimes if these things are deliberately put in, Plumley exclusively told Liverpool News.

It’s in the notes to the accounts, and it references the fact that it will boost the profit on player sales as well for the year that we’re in now.

“We’ll see that in the 2025 accounts, but yes, interesting that they honed in on that number on net spend and it is a huge achievement for sure.

“The caveat to that of course as well is he [Slot] inherited a good squad, didn’t he? It wasn’t that he was kind of left hung out to dry a little bit.

Liverpool eye EFL Cup triumph v Newcastle

“I think the achievement is in the new manager coming in and [having] almost a seamless transition and how good they’ve been given that hangover that maybe some predicted from what was Jurgen Klopp and a huge figure at Liverpool to then Arne Slot.

“So, I think that the bigger achievement actually is probably on the pitch and the manager getting that team in shape because it’s a good squad and they’ve not spent big, but they’ve been brilliant on the pitch.

“Financially, they’ll look back on this year that we’re talking about now, when we see that in the accounts, I’m sure, and they’ll look back on that as a really successful year off the pitch.

“Little bit of work to do on the pitch to get the league title, but it’s looking very likely, so yeah, it’s a positive bit of news for the football club and I’m sure the figures in 2025 will be very healthy financially.”

Liverpool will be determined to put the disappointment of being eliminated from the Champions League when they face Newcastle in the EFL Cup final at Wembley on Sunday, 16 March.

That will be Slot’s first chance to clinch his first trophy as the Reds manager, while it is only a matter of time before he seals the Premier League title.
